Asian Games 2014 - Sailing Events

The 2014 Asian Games, officially known as the XVII Asiad, is scheduled to take place in Incheon, South Korea from 19 September to 04 October 2014, with 437 events in 36 sports and disciplines set to feature in the Games.

Preparations for the 2014 Asian Games Sailing Competition in Incheon, South Korea are already well underway. The classes of boats that shall compete at the event have been announced by Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee (IAGOC). There will be 06 events each for Men and Women and 02 Open events. Mr Mark Pryke, the International Sailing Federation appointed Technical Delegate for the Asian Games 2014, has been requested to prepare the Notice of Race by the IAGOC and is expected to be issued shortly.

History of Asian Games - The idea of the Asian Games was first conceived by Prof. G.D. Sondhi and the suggestion for holding the Asian Games was first made in a conference of Asian Countries held in New Delhi in 1947 and the then Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had suggested that these games be known as the Asian Games. The first Asian Games were held in India during 04 to 11 March 1951.
