Consequent to expiry of the term of the present YAI Council, the elections will be conducted to the various elective positions in the YAI Council. The elections will be conducted in accordance with the regulation on postal balloting as approved by the YAI Council during its meeting No 02 /2004 held on 16 Nov 2004. Copy of the Minutes of Meeting can be downloaded from the link provided below.

Since Lt Gen Vijai Sharma,PVSM, AVSM, Vice President YAI is also officiating as the President YAI, he has appointed Justice (Retd) Ms Usha Mehra, Delhi High Court as the Chairperson of the Balloting Committee to ensure transparency in conduct of elections.

  • Determining that the election process is conducted in accordance with the YAI Constitution.
  • Determining that the procedure on postal ballot is conducted in accordance with the regulation on postal balloting as approved by the YAI Council during its meeting No 02 /2004 held on 16 Nov 2004.
  • Determining whether or not the nominated candidate is eligible for election.
  • Publishing a list of eligible candidates together with the names of nominating members for distribution.
  • Conduct of the elections and counting of votes taken for the candidates through the postal balloting system.
  • Announcement of results.

The YAI Council is the final decision making body of YAI and comprises of the YAI President, the Vice-President, the Treasurer; the Chairman Sailing & Club Development Committee; the Chairman Youth Classes Committee; the Chairman National (Asian Games & Olympic) Classes Committee; the Chairman Offshore & Motor Boating Committee; the Chairman National Classes Committee; the Chairman Sailing Performance Development Committee; the Chairman Events Committee; the Chairman Fund Raising & Publicity Committee; Chairperson Women’s Sailing Committee. A prominent yachtsperson is co - opted to the Council and is also a member but does not have a vote.  The 12 Council members are elected by the “Member Clubs” as set out in YAI Constitution and may be nominated by any of the member clubs.

Aprakrita Shankar Narayanan, a student of Dhirubhai Ambani International School is organising a fund raising programme for the Yachting Association of India (YAI) and the Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA). As part of this fundraising, Naseeruddin Shah and his troupe “Motley” will perform a 2 hour 15 minutes play titled, “The Caine Mutiny” on 03 Sep 2011 at the Mulla Auditorium, Navy Nagar, Colaba, Mumbai. The funds raised through the programme will benefit both the YAI and NWWA in a proportion of 75% to the YAI and 25% to the NWWA.
